Быстрый поиск файлов на жёстких дисках

C помощью Locate поиск нужного файла занимает пару секунд, вам достаточно помнить хотя бы часть его имени.
Очень высокая скорость поиска достигается благодаря тому, что Locate, как и его одноимённый UNIX-предок, предварительно создаёт некий снимок всех файлов (или указанных мест) в системе и сохраняет в своей базе данных, после чего ищет в этой базе информацию для указанного выражения и выдаёт все пути для заданного имени файла. База данных периодически обновляется (периодичность задаётся пользователем) и содержит сведения обо всех доступных для чтения путях и именах файлов.
База имеет небольшой размер (в среднем 1 Мбайт на 10 Гбайт файлов, зависит от размера индексируемых файлов). Поиск возможен как через командную строку, так и с помощью графического интерфейса.

Размер базы - около 6,5 Мб на примерно 130 Гб файлов
и ищет она очкнеь быстро.

если бы еще была поддержка русского языка....

Порадовало то, что если какой-либо файл удален, то пишется в окне поиска, что его в базе нет, а не тупо дается ссылка на несуществующее

    result list or not. Futhermore, there are options for that which tab can be currently
    shown so that shortcut is effective (not which tab has keyboard focus as in the previous version).
    This change fixes the problem that Alt+N didn't activate, for example, "Minimum file size" box
    in "Size and Data tab" if focus is in the result list. Check there options or reset shortcuts!!!!
-    Posssible to specify several directories "In look" (e.g. "c:\temp;c:\windows" )
